Young The Giant, Cold War Kids, and Joywave are bringing their signature sounds to the Huntington Bank Pavilion!
Cold War Kids were formed in Long Beach in 2004 by Nathan Willett (lead vocals, piano, guitar, percussion), Matt Maust (bass guitar), Jonnie Russell (guitar, backing vocals, percussion, piano, keyboards), and Matt Aveiro (drums, percussion) after they’d met at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. Matt came up with the band’s name while he was traveling around Eastern Europe. He was in a park (in Budapest, Hungary) which was full of statues that had been discarded after the fall of Communism. The park also had a playground which gave him inspiration for the name. He said in an interview, “...being in that environment just made the phrase 'Cold War Kids' pop into my head. I may have heard it before. I'm a cold war kid, too – I was born in 1979.” The band’s been through some line-up changes and currently consists of Nathan, Matt, Matthew Schwartz (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals, percussion), Joe Plummer (drums, percussion), and David Quon (guitar, backing vocals). They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums, 1 live album, 1 compilation album, 10 EPs, and 16 singles. They’ve also played at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo and Coachella.
